When I was in Burma I met a guy who’s just come from Nepal and who was wearing this really nice shirt by a skate label called Arniko.
Arniko is a swiss-nepali label producing skateboards and streetwear with the goal to produce personalized and under humane conditions. The boards are made with small local enterprises using Nepalese art of woodcarving and look pretty awesome but see for yourself:
If I was into skateboarding I’d totally buy one.
Today is the last day of the Schmiede festival 09 in Hallein, which I’ve been participation for the 2nd time now. More than 100 musicians, photographers, djs, singers, tech-geeks and freaks, dancers, painters, programmers and other artists gather each year in September for 10 days to work together and play with ideas.
Accompanied by spicy food, a nice quantity of wine & beer and some awesome tunes, the Schmiede creates a temporary home and being a place of true inspiration, motivation, discussion and fun the Schmiede definitely grows on you.
Again this year, I’ve met some very skilled people who are living life out of the ordinary and who follow their ideas. Some of which I’d like to write more about in the next few days.

Nachhaltigkeit im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Kleiderhaken zum selbst an ein Stueck Ast schrauben. Auf gehts, ab in den Wald – wood hunting! Ideal fuer Trachtenmode, schaut sicher sehr chic aus. Ich bin mir aber nicht so sicher wie gut jetzt zB Ballkleider auf dem Holz machen.. Egal, eine gute Idee ist es auf alle Faelle.
Sometimes design is about new behavior, not new product. Thinking beyond recycling, why waste energy shaping wood when nature is already doing such a good job ?

Ha, fast leistbar inzwischen. Die mit frechen und dreckigen Spruechen bestickten T-shirts tuns mir einfach immer noch an. Wann schenkt mir wer eine Naehmaschine die sticken kann? Weil, ich kanns leider immer noch nicht :-(
