Ich habe in den letzten Monaten 5 neue Bücher bestellt, die gelesen werden wollen, nur fehlt mir einfach der Platz dafür. Nicht für die Bücher, sondern für mich. Mein Schreibtischsessel dreht sich wunderbar bei jeder Bewegung mit, der Klappsessel aus der Küche lässt keine bequeme Sitzhaltung zu und mein Bett ist einfach zu gemütlich. Es dauert keine 10 Minuten und ich schlafe ein, egal ob Krimi, Lovestory oder die neueste National Geographic Ausgabe.*

Ergo – Ein Sofa muss her.

Nur gestaltet sich das gar nicht so einfach, denn die von Ikea gefallen nicht, die von Kika schon gar nicht und alles was gefällt, gefällt meinem Kontostand nicht. Aber man wird ja noch träumen dürfen. zB von einer Chaise Longue, ein ganz besonders schickes Teil auf dem es sich gut ruhen und lesen lässt. Da eine Chaise Lounge immer nur auf einer Seite eine Seiten und Rückenstütze sollte sie eigentlich in die Kategorie Egoistensofa einordnet werden, Sofa for one eben. Perfekt zum Bücher lesen, da wird das Stören gleich eine Spur schwieriger gemacht! Wobei der Einschlaffaktor natürlich immer noch gegeben ist, vielleicht wird doch ein Fauteil.

Zu so einem Sofa aus der Neuen Wiener Werkstätte könnte man mich schon überreden…

Okay, fertig geträumt.

Sollte da draußen trotzdem jemand ein schickes Teil loswerden wollen oder mir ein schickes, günstiges Teil empfehlen wollen – bitte, immer her damit!

Vienna Design Week 2010 starts today and I got a chance to take a look at some of the things that will be happening during the next 10 days. The Design Week takes place in various locations all over Vienna: the project space at the Karlsplatz, Palais Liechtenstein and many, many more. This year the festival gets support by companies such as Ikea, Swarovski, Rado or the Wiener Werkstätte.

The is a special exhibition “”Barocker Glanz und Stainless Steel“ at the Palais Liechtenstein, which I really enjoyed. Olgoj Chorchoj created a huge table with even bigger wine glasses and jugs. The idea behind it is to feel like a child again, just about tall enough to get a glimpse what’s on the table.

The swedish designers Claesson Koivisto Rune worked with Lobmeyer and Wiener Silberschmiede, creating those fantastic glasses. They can be used as glasses, vases, etc. 20 pieces, startin from 2.500€ – 70.000 for the whole collection. Looking for an exquisite wedding list anyone?

Beautiful detail. Claesson Koivisto Rune chose some old Lobmeyer designs to be engraved into the glasses.

An exhibiton about sugar, how sugar beet grows in Austria and how sugar was something exquisite not so long ago. Apparently we all eat 24kg of sugar a year! Studio Makkink & Bey (NL).

Next stop was Hernals – the March Gut temporary room, where they show some Dyson Award entry projects. If you go there, go to the bakery next door at the corner and order some apple strudel – DELICIOUS!!

At the Wiener Werkstätte the artists White Elephant had a closer look at how the sofas and chairs are put together. Interesting to see and I loved their idea of having a time capsule, which you can fill with whatever you may like and which will then be included into your newly bought furniture. Love it, love it, want it!

Ikea even moved to the inner city for the Design Week. They put a a space where during the next few days workshops will take place – Licht und Farbe – for free. Check it out here.

Those are only some of the things I got a sneak peak at. Plus there is a Swarovski exhibition at the Künstlerhaus, which personally I think would be something for luxury please. I just don’t get the fuzz they make about shiny, sparkly glass…Why would you want concrete tiles with huge Swarovski crystals? Expert to show off. And in my opinion if you really want to show off and you have that kind of money – go for the real thing instead of bragging with “diamonds” on your wall.

Can’t wait to see more! Of the other stuff though, the good stuff…

Today felt like a good day to do something a little creative. So I cut up some LPs with my saw. I found something like that on the internet but can’t find the link anymore… anyhow, Mr and Ms LP now live above my bed, right beside the super awesome bookshelf (d.i.y. - and yes, I drilled the holes myself *proud*).
